My first post since I walked into Santiago – three weeks ago. I have been working on an assessment of the clothes and gear that I used and will post this info soon, but meanwhile I wanted to share with you my delight in ‘getting Greenland’.
There are very interesting statistics available on my wordpress blog – well at any rate they are very interesting to me. I can see how many visitors I have received on a daily, weekly, monthly, annual or all time basis, with similar information for views (a visitor may only view one post, or may read several or many) I can see if they have come via a click on another blog or website, and if they have clicked any links on my blog to another site. And the information I find most fascinating – I can see what country the visitors have clicked from, with a world map showing the countries coloured according to how many views have come from each. I have to say, my geography is improving, which certainly can’t be a bad thing!
When I click on the button for ‘all time’ views the map is very colourful and there is not much of Europe that is left white, except that is, Greenland. For a country of 840,000 square miles it has a tiny population of under 60,000 and I expect they are all much too cold to sit around looking at their computers, but it caused me to have a huge white blob between Europe and North America and I so wanted to colour it in. Well, today is the day it turned from white to beige. There was one visitor who viewed just one post, but when I saw that colour on the map it made me whoop with joy (‘little things please little minds’ is a phrase of my father’s that comes to the fore, and I’m sure he would be saying it if he were reading this!)
So thank you, person from Greenland – you have made my day!

Hi Sean. I presume you mean weight – I lost a few other things en route, but I don’t suppose you are interested in them.
I lost somewhere between 3 and 4 kilos in this walk – much more last year on the Frances route, but I had managed to keep a fair bit of it off over the year, so started this year from a better weight. I have already regained some of it though!
When I arrived at the pilgrims’ office in Santiago I was greeted by a guy with an Irish accent who told me his name was Sean. I got quite excited and asked if he was ‘Sean from Dublin’ thinking you may have stayed around to do a stint as an amigo. Sadly, not, but it is good to keep in touch. How was your caminho (other than Tui!) would love to hear.

I have to admit I’ve never looked at this statistic before so after reading your post I had a look at mine and, to my surprise, found I have FIVE visits from Greenland! I wonder if we share a viewer? 🙂
It was also interesting to see that the majority of your visitors are from the US, whereas the highest percentage of mine are from the UK, with the US following closely behind.

Yes, I’ve had more than twice as many hits from the US as from the UK, closely followed by Canada, Australia, Spain and Ireland. Which pretty much reflects the interest in the camino and the numbers that I met en route.
I also learned from a comment that wordpress is banned in China, so I won’t expect any visits from there!

Thanks Grania. How did your son get on? That is a long walk. I am thinking of walking from home next year, about 60 km to Málaga and then to cordoba and the via de la plata. But I would split it into two stages, perhaps to Merida or Casares next year and pick up where I left off the following year. I found this year that four weeks was definitely enough time to be away from home.

Oh, I’ve been hoping for a Greenland visit for a long time. Hehe. We finally got China which I didn’t think we’d ever get because WordPress is banned in China, but somehow we registered a hit from there. My next goal is the elusive Greenland. Congrats!! 🙂

Thanks Shev. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks. Am currently on an extended stay in the uk due to the French air strike. Three extra days with my daughter and grandson, so not all bad!

I’ve enjoyed reading your two blogs (Frances & Portuguese) as I start planning my first Camino in 12 months time when I retire.
