After the storm…

We were amazed this morning to see that snow had settled on the mountains above the village and that it was falling steadily.

Our planned departure is via a bus that’s due to arrive just after 10:00.  Lucky for us the hospitalera arrives around 9:30 to tell us that the bus won’t operate in these conditions – it will bypass the village and reroute on the motorway. She very kindly organises us a taxi to the next sizeable town with services, Pola de Lena. We share the ride with a German peregrina who will walk on from there. The Danish guy who was also at the albergue last night walked out bright (maybe not so bright) and early. Rather him than me.

So we took a bus from Pola de Lena to Oviedo and arrived to warm sunshine. We made our way to the cathedral square where we were welcomed by an Asturian bagpipe band – thank you very much. They also happened to be entertaining the visitors to a cheese fair that was taking place.

It’s been a day of sunshine alternating with downpours. We’ve done a lot of wandering, and a bit of eating and drinking.

We’ll have another day here and a couple in Bilbao before returning home

Thanks so much to everyone who managed to comment. I know lots more tried and failed for some frustrating reason. I’ll try to find out why that’s been happening.

It’s been an odd camino, what with accommodation difficulties at the start and ridiculous weather at the end. I won’t let it put me off though – I might be blogging again in the autumn if my grandson Mikey fancies another stroll through Spain, and then there’s always next year…

  1. It has been an unusual camino for you and you always manage to take it in your stride. Onwards and upwards and enjoy the rest of your time in Spain. Buen Camino to you both. Melx

I enjoy following your trails with you. I’ve followed your earlier paths and now happy you are back at it. I’ve walked 8 Caminos but they are the usual routes while you are exploring new ways to me.

    Thank you for sharing.

Sounds like this right thing to do for the time and weather. Can’t wait to hear if any more adventures you decide to partake in and a Camino with your grandson would be fantastic as was the last one.
Best of luck and will be waiting to hear of any new adventures.

    Cheers!
